About us
Established in 1957, RNIB Rushton School and Children's Home provides specialist education, 52 week residential care, therapies and healthcare for children and young people with sight loss and additional complex needs up to the age of 19. Our on-site school also offers education to a small number of pupils who attend on a daily basis. We can admit young people from across the UK. Day pupils usually come from within easy daily travelling distance.
We support children and young people who are blind or partially sighted and have learning difficulties and disabilities (*P levels 1 to 8). We also support :
- social, emotional or behavioural difficulties
- autistic spectrum disorders
- physical disabilities
- communication difficulties
- additional sensory impairment
- additional health care needs.
Redevelopment
RNIB has embarked upon on of its most ambitious projects to date. We are currently undergoing an exciting transformation which will provide state-of-the-art facilities for all young people who live and learn at Rushton. Due for completion in 2011, the new facility will provide a home to sixty young people. The school will provide education to all young people living on site, as well as an additional ten day students. The design aims to minimise the impact of the young people's disabilities. RNIB Rushton is open now and there will be a phased transition to our new facilities over the next two years.
