Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common disabling neurological disorder among young adults. It is the result of damage to myelin — a protective sheath surrounding the nerve fibres of the central nervous system. Its effects include problems with mobility and speech, extreme fatigue, pain, continence, and cognition. It affects some 100,000 people in the UK.

The MS Society offers support for people with MS and their families. This includes publishing a range of award-winning and evidence-based information about MS, statutory services and other sources of support, in both print and electronic formats.    It funds research and issues grants to help people affected by MS cope with the additional costs of having the condition.

Its free, confidential Helpline is available from 09:00-21:00 Mondays to Fridays on 0808 800 8000.   The MS Society is the largest organisation in the UK representing and working for those affected by multiple sclerosis. Get our free publications from stand 535.
